MVSB Employees Raise More Than $4,400 For March of Dimes Photo of Rick Wyman and Karen Dennis

MVSB employees, many accompanied by their families and friends, joined the fight against birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality when they walked in the March for Babies on May 2, 2010 at Opechee Park in Laconia.

As a Gold Level Sponsor of the event, MVSB contributed $1,500 to the cause. Bank employees also raised an additional $4,474.20. MVSB was the number one fundraising team in the Lakes Region, and ranked number seven in the state, helping the Lakes Region event raise a total of $33,000 and statewide projects raised a total of $325,000 for March for Babies.

Employees raised funds for the walk by hosting bake sales at the bank’s Main Office in downtown Meredith and at the Route 104 branch, as well as through the sale of March of Dimes premium chocolate bars, and a “blue jeans for babies” day in which employees donated money and wore blue jeans to work to show their support.

“We’re so grateful for the continued support of Team MVSB,” said Karen Dennis, New Hampshire state director of March of Dimes. “They donate an extraordinary amount of their time and energy to help us in our quest to ensure every baby in New Hampshire a healthy start.”

The Bank also distributed several hundred awareness wrist bands and hosted the organization’s first local Bank Night in the area at the Bank’s Laconia branch to allow local participants to drop off their collected donations several days before the event. The top individual fundraisers on Team MVSB were Angie Morner, Tamara VanLenten and Berniece Sullivan. Team Co-captains were Morner, VanLenten and Amy Davis.

MVSB participated in March for Babies to help give every baby a healthy start. According to the March of Dimes, of the 227 babies that are born in an average week in New Hampshire, 29 are born prematurely, 19 are considered to have low birth weight, and one will not make it to his or her first birthday.

The March of Dimes has been walking since 1970 and has raised $1.8 billion to benefit babies nationwide. Walkers from Team MVSB joined 1 million people walking with their friends, families, and co-workers in more than 900 U.S. communities. The March of Dimes invests 76 cents of each dollar raised back into local communities through supporting healthy pregnancy programs and research efforts that help solve the problems that threaten babies.
