Got Lunch! Inter-Lakes was selected as one of thirteen local non-profit organizations to receive a grant from the Meredith Village Savings Bank Charitable Fund in 2014. The $5000 grant will help the organization with the cost of food and enable them to provide dairy vouchers to each participating family.
Got Lunch! Inter-Lakes provides summer lunch supplies to the families of Inter-Lakes School District students, many of which would normally qualify for free and reduced-price lunches at school during the school year. In its first year, 2013, the organization provided healthy lunches to 142 children and they expect to serve 150 children this year. Each Monday throughout the summer, a week’s worth of lunch food items are packed and delivered by volunteers to participating families in Meredith, CenterHarbor and Sandwich.
“Adding a third meal into a tight food budget can be quite a burden for a family,” said Christine Hodecker-George, Chair for Got Lunch! Inter-Lakes. “So having lunch taken care of during the summer, allows these families to focus more on preparing and providing nutritious meals for breakfast and dinner.”
Got Lunch! Inter-Lakes was formed in 2012 with the mission to provide healthy lunches to the students of the Inter-LakesSchool District that find themselves in need during the 9 to 10 weeks of summer recess. The organization is a volunteer collaborative effort of residents, town departments, businesses and civic organizations residing or doing business in the three towns served by the Inter-LakesSchool District: Meredith, CenterHarbor and Sandwich. MVSB established the Meredith Village Savings Bank Fund in 1997 under the leadership of John Starrett who was then president and CEO of the Bank. Since then, 248 grants totaling more than $971,992 have been awarded to a wide range of environmental, social, educational, and historic projects throughout the Greater Lakes Region and Plymouth areas. Over the years, the Fund has supported literacy programs, after-school programs, environmental monitoring and education, restoration of historic structures, organizations that provide support for individuals and families in challenging circumstances, and equipment that helps save lives. The deadline for consideration for the 2014 grant cycle is October 15, 2014. Applications are available on the Bank’s website (www.mvsb.com) and at all MVSB offices.
