We received reports of active card skimming at convenience store ATMs across the country, including several locations in Massachusetts. Skimming is the use of a device to illegally collect magnetic stripe information from credit, debit and ATM cards. The information collected is used by identity thieves to create counterfeit cards, which can be used to make fraudulent purchases or withdrawals. MVSB has provided critical support to the Laconia Area Community Land Trust’s (LACLT) tax credit campaign to upgrade its properties by purchasing $50,000 in tax credits from the nonprofit. New Hampshire’s Community Development Finance Authority (CDFA) awarded LACLT $500,000 in tax credits to sell to businesses. The Four Paws Inn provides cage-free doggie daycare and boarding services in Meredith.  They recently expanded their facility with financing provided by Meredith Village Savings Bank (MVSB). With colder weather moving in and the holidays fast approaching, MVSB is continuing a tradition since 1979 of collecting donations from the community of mittens, hats and scarves to distribute to local residents through its annual Mitten Tree program. Beginning the day after Thanksgiving and continuing through December 19th, donations of handmade or purchased mittens, gloves, hats and scarves by area residents and customers can be dropped off at the nearest MVSB office. Once again, local photographer Jon Secord has committed to contribute 25% of his photography sales from now through December 15th to Genesis Behavioral Health (Genesis) of Laconia and Plymouth. Meredith Village Savings Bank (MVSB) has agreed to match his donation up to $5,000 to help support the efforts of Genesis Behavioral Health here in the Lakes Region. We are excited to let you know that we are working to bring EMV chip technology to MVSB debit cards. Changes in EMV requirements for merchants has increased the demand for chipped cards, so we are currently awaiting our launch date. We expect to be able to issue EMV chip-enabled debit cards to customers in the next few months. The EMV chip, short for Europay, MasterCard and Visa, is located on the front of a credit or debit card and assigns a unique, one-time code to every transaction made with that card at a chip-enabled terminal.
