Community members are once again reporting fraudulent text messages claiming to be from local banks. While we are not aware that MVSB customers have been impacted at this time, it’s not uncommon scammers to move on to other area banks as the effectiveness of their scheme begins to dwindle.
In this recent scam, the text message asks the recipient to confirm a large transaction attempt on their bank account. To report the transaction as fraud, the recipient must click on a link bringing them to a fake webpage that prompts them to provide their online banking username and password.
Remember: Never click on a suspicious link you receive by text and do not provide your account or online banking information in response to an unsolicited message. Doing so will put your phone, your accounts and your identity at risk.
It’s easy for scammers to pose as legitimate businesses by “spoofing” (or imitating) the contact names and caller ID. While MVSB does send alert customers to suspicious activity by text message, we will not ask you to click on a suspicious link or respond with personal information.
If you are ever concerned a communication you received was not from us and/or if you have clicked on a suspicious link, please contact us right away at 800.922.6872 so that we can assist you with protecting your accounts and identity.
